October is our annual members only Hair of the Dog meeting.

 

Monday, October 16th at 7PM

61 SE Yamhill St, Portland, OR 97214  

 

Our Hair of the Dog meeting will be October 16, 7pm. HotD founder Alan Sprints was President of the OBC back in the day. Please make sure you thank him for his hospitality and tip your bartenders. Read further to get info on food and the famous Merlemorial Habanero fudge competition. One of the HotD chefs is gunning for victory this year.

~ October Burgermeister News ~

This month’s meeting location is at Hair of the Dog! It is one of our most anticipated and largest events all year, which means that we'll have tons of drinking mouths to feed! We are going to ramp up the prizes for the food raffle this month, bigger and better! Please bring a tasty treat to share with the crowd, which enters you to win the raffle!

CALLING ALL FUDGE LOVERS!!!

The 11th Annual Merlemorial Habanero Fudge Competition will be held that same night, as is tradition. If you are going to participate please let me know. Details regarding prizes will be available closer to the event with more details.


Finally, we have moved the Annual Chili Contest to the November meeting during the cooler weather, however you are more than welcome and encouraged to bring chili or any other food item to this October meeting. See you soon!

RAFFLE TICKETS

1 ticket for small items: chips/dip, breads, package of store bought cookies, candy, etc.

 

3 tickets for medium items: salad, a plate of homemade goodies, a pot of beans, veggies, or a smaller to medium dish of substantial food.

 

5 tickets for large items that feed at least a couple dozen people: lasagna, mac and cheese, sandwiches, BBQ or Smoked meats, or a medium dish with obviously expensive ingredients, or generous portion of time used to prepare it.

Education topic: Open Forum!  A panel of experienced and successful OBC homebrewers will answer questions from the group in an open Q&A informal format.  Think of it as chatting about making better beer with 100 of your closest friends.


Food: We would like to have food available at this meeting, so we encourage our members to bring some food items for everyone to share. Don't forget that bringing food to share at a meeting can earn not only Karma points but also raffle tickets.  Meagan will be holding a raffle for all members that bring food items.  She will be giving away a $25 gift card and more. On top of all of this, our 2018 Burgermeister, Meagan Thompson would love the support!


Beer:  Beer is a very important part of these meetings. We wouldn’t have beer without our members. Growler fills and bottled homebrew  are highly encouraged as this is a great way to share your beer with your peers and get honest and immediate feedback. If you bring a keg of your homebrew to a meeting you will earn Karma Points! Keep in mind that we may have beer planned for the Education topic or beer from other club specific brewing events. So that we can balance the amount of beer available at our meetings It is very helpful for us to plan in advance of the meeting. If you would like to request a tap spot for your keg, or if you plan to pour a keg via a picnic tap, please let us know in advance! We ask that if you do bring a keg, that you give a brief talk to the members about the details of your beer .
